Genetic Defects

The majority of our puppies go as family pets so we require all our dogs to have the typical sweet happy go-lucky Retriever  personality as well as the natural retriever instincts and a sound body...as we are all aware, there are no guarantees in life, unforeseen tragic events happen to everybody and everything all the time....as a breeder, we’ve taken advantage of what is readily available to us by way of xraying , ophthalmologist testing, studying pedigrees of all our stock before breeding to ensure the soundness of this puppy.... all our breeding stock have regular eye exams and have certified clear hips and elbows...with regards to hip dysplasia approx 15% of all Labs and 23% Golden Retrievers will be dysplastic to some degree (Pugs are up into the 62% bracket, German Shepherds around 45%...humans, by the way are 25%), that's according to the OFA statistics (http://www.offa.org/hdstats.html)....it really doesn't matter if you breed good hips to good hips, good to bad or bad to bad, you still come up with the same percentage...however since the goal of breeding is to improve the breed we of course only breed good to good...so you see there is always going to be a risk and certain environmental conditions can aggravate the growth and can make the dysplasia much worse (ie. overweight, jogging, poor quality food,  etc)...since that is the case we only will replace a pup that has severe dysplasia and must be euthanized...due to hidden recessive genes there too is always a small risk of other genetic problems cropping up...evidence of a genetic defect is highly unlikely to appear, but if it should then the buyer’s contract that you have already signed, will cover what ever actions that need to be taken.

By signing this statement I/we hereby acknowledge that an outline of some of the possible genetic defects have been explained and understand that there is a small risk of a genetic defect.
